Sama Sama

Total bill: ₱880 (No service charge)

Cost per person: ₱440

What I ordered & my thoughts:

  • Sinigang (In-house soup): Lightly tangy with a noticeable tomato flavor 🍅, and comes with a good amount of vegetables in the soup. Simple and comforting.

  • Cheese Sticks (₱180): Pretty standard homemade style, nothing too special. The portion is on the smaller side, and the price feels slightly on the higher end for what you get.

  • Extra Busog Plate (₱420): A set with 2 mains, 1 side, and a drink. We chose Boneless Chicken Inasal Thigh, Chicken Adobo Flakes, Garlic Rice, and the drink of the day was melon juice. The chicken inasal was very well done, juicy and tender, without being dry. Even the slightly charred edges didn’t taste bitter; instead, they added a nice depth of flavor. The adobo flakes felt quite creative, with a rich and intense flavor that pairs really well with rice 🍚. That said, it can be a bit salty on its own, so it’s best enjoyed with more rice to balance it out.

  • Oatscaldo (₱280): Perfect for a rainy evening 🌧️, warm and comforting. Made with oats, chicken, and a soft-boiled egg, so it’s quite high in protein but still feels light and easy to digest. The portion is reasonable, though the price still leans a bit high.

Overall experience:

  • A small restaurant tucked into a busy neighborhood, mostly frequented by nearby residents. It feels like the kind of place you’d casually head to when you want a decent, comforting meal without much planning, just change into something relaxed and head downstairs.

  • The space isn’t big, but it’s well-equipped (even has an indoor restroom). Service was warm and thoughtful, they brought out a hot soup right after we sat down, which made the wait feel much shorter.

  • They also put effort into presentation, serving dishes in different types of ceramic plates and bowls, which adds a nice sense of occasion to the meal.

My review:

After a long, busy day 😮‍💨, I don’t always want to settle for a quick takeaway, but ordering multiple dishes at a restaurant can feel like too much when dining alone. This place strikes a really nice balance, it’s perfect if you want to try a variety of dishes without committing to large portions 🍽️✨.
