Scratch

Total bill: ₱4,100.94

Cost per person: ₱1,025.24

What I ordered & my thoughts:

  • Sausage and Egg (₱480): If you’ve had a classic fast-food sausage-and-egg breakfast muffin, this will feel familiar, but very much upgraded. The sourdough muffin was chewy, the sausage patty thick and meaty, and the “butter” in the middle turned out to be egg. With their signature sauce, every bite had great texture and layers of flavour. Just a little too rich after a while.

  • Meatballs (₱560): House-made meatballs with a really good sauce. Unfortunately, without the sauce, the meatballs were rather underwhelming. The accompanying focaccia was perfect for soaking up the leftover sauce, though the portion was a bit small.

  • French Toast (₱440): The toast itself was excellent, crispy outside and soft inside. Sadly, the caramel was over-burnt and bitter, while the blueberry sauce was noticeably sour. The combination just didn’t work for me.

  • Watermelon-Pine Soda (₱240), Ginger Ale (₱200), Cashew-Pecan Latte (₱280), Apple Pie Espresso Tonic (₱280) :The Ginger Ale had an impressively strong ginger kick that lingered pleasantly. The Apple Pie Espresso Tonic was the most interesting, with cinnamon and apple sweetness balancing the bitterness and acidity of the espresso and tonic. The other two were fairly ordinary.

Overall experience:

  • The logo is cleverly designed—you wouldn’t immediately know the restaurant’s name from outside, and spotting “Scratch” on the bill was a fun little reveal.

  • No reservations, long queues, and a self-service ordering system made things quite chaotic once it got busy. With staff mainly delivering food and water, the service charge felt a little questionable.

My review:

The bread and ingredients are thoughtfully done, but the prices feel disproportionate to the portions, and the chaotic setup makes the whole experience feel more like grabbing a quick bite at a busy snack shop than enjoying a proper meal.
