Union Jack Tavern

Total bill: ₱1,089.29

Cost per person: ₱544.65

What I ordered & my thoughts:

  • Minced Beef & Onion Homemade Pie (₱505, comes with 2 sides): This was a pleasant surprise 😋 (I usually go for sweet pies). The filling was rich and thick, pairing really well with the flaky crust. Personally, I found it slightly on the salty side even without the gravy, though my dining companion thought it was just right. The sides were also a nice touch, not your typical fast-food kind. The fries felt properly house-made, and the corn & carrots were crisp and not overcooked.

  • Spaghetti Bolognese (₱495): Generous amount of mushroom and meat sauce 🍝, you can tell the kitchen didn’t hold back. The flavor had some depth and wasn’t one-dimensional, while the pasta itself had a satisfying bite. The garlic butter bread on the side, however, was a bit underwhelming, buttery, but quite thin, lacking that fluffy or crispy texture you’d hope for.

Overall experience:

  • The interior design is what catches your attention first, a strong British vibe 🇬🇧 with wooden finishes, classic furniture, football jerseys, Union Jack elements, and even a portrait of the Queen. Everything feels thoughtfully put together, giving that “step in and instantly transported to the UK” kind of atmosphere.

  • Service was attentive without being overbearing, staff were quick to refill water and clear plates at just the right moments, and dishes arrived promptly, still piping hot 🔥.

  • This time I chose a window-side booth, which turned out to be a nice spot. Looking out onto the quiet street with the occasional passersby made the whole dining experience feel a bit more relaxed and enjoyable.

  • Overall, the space leans more toward a pub-style setting 🍺, with a clear separation between smoking and non-smoking areas. It feels like a place that gets livelier in the evening, great for drinks and social gatherings, though the overall environment can be on the noisier side.

My review:
The overall ambiance is definitely a highlight, the strong British vibe adds a memorable touch to the dining experience 🇬🇧. That said, the food feels more “fair for the price” rather than truly impressive or great value. If I were to come back, it would probably be to try their Indian dishes.
