Wok It Out
Total bill: ₱1,226.54
Cost per person: ₱613.27
What I ordered & my thoughts:
Pan Fried Pork Dumplings (₱148): Not freshly pan-fried or piping hot, and rather greasy without the crispiness or aroma you’d expect from freshly fried dumplings. The surface had only a light golden sear, and the greasiness became even more noticeable as they cooled.
Chicken Feet (₱138): Good flavor, but not steamed quite long enough to reach that soft, tender texture.
Pork Xiao Long Bao (₱238): Hot and fragrant when served, with 10 pieces making it great value. Unfortunately, once they cool down, they become noticeably greasy.
Wok it Out Fried Rice (₱128): Similar to Yang Chow, with a decent portion.
Porkchop without Rice (₱118): A generous boneless piece of meat, rather than a thick layer of batter. The flavor is a little mild, so it needs to be mixed with the sweet chili sauce for more flavor. For better value, ordering the porkchop with rice makes more sense, as the portion is not much different.
Taiwan Chicken Nuggets (₱168): The English name was a little misleading — it’s actually closer to a Taiwanese fried chicken cutlet. Like the porkchop, the portion is generous but the flavor is quite mild. Still, it makes a nice snack.
Taiwan Beef Noodles (₱188): The biggest surprise of the meal 🍜. The chewy noodles and authentic beef broth were impressive for the price, with a mix of beef and brisket. Having the option to choose brisket only would have been even better, but even as it is, this was excellent value.
Overall experience:
We arrived around 11am and were already number 4 in line, waiting about 30 minutes.
The menu is simple with a limited selection, although some photos and dish names don’t line up properly.
Staff were friendly and responsive, though service can be a little slower with seating spread across two floors. There’s also an indoor restroom, which is a convenient plus.
My review:
Overall, the food is solid and, importantly, doesn’t seem to have been overly adjusted to suit the local preference for sweeter flavors. Portions are generous for the price, making this a genuinely good-value spot. Even with the queue, I didn’t feel the wait was wasted. Hopefully they keep this standard and remain a good, honest neighborhood spot.
